What we do

Research – Innovation – Translation

IMPACT exists to further the scientific study of factors which affect patient and bystander outcomes following road related trauma.

Research

At the heart of our centre’s mission is delivering scientific research focused on post-collision care. Our team of researchers, clinicians, and scientists work collaboratively to explore the complexities of post-collision care, with the goal of improving physical and psychological outcomes for individuals with road injury. Our research encompasses a broad range of studies, from immediate emergency response techniques to triage, to bystander enablement. By employing state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies, we strive to generate robust, evidence-based data that can inform best practices in this space. Our projects include epidemiological studies, and biomechanical analyses, all designed to deepen our understanding of how to effectively manage and treat those with road injury.

Translation

Through partnerships with leading academic institutions, healthcare providers, and policy-makers, our research aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ultimately ensuring that we deliver patient centred care and our patients have optimal outcomes.

Innovation

Innovation is a cornerstone of our approach to post-collision care. We believe that continuous advancement in medical technologies and care practices is essential to improving patient outcomes. Our centre fosters an environment where creative thinking and novel solutions are encouraged and developed. We collaborate widely to create and refine tools that can be used in the immediate stages following a collision.

Additionally, we focus on innovative training programs for first responders and medical personnel, ensuring they are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills. By staying at the forefront of clinical, operational and technological advancements and integrating them into our care protocols, we aim to set new standards in trauma care that can save lives and reduce the long-term physical and psychological impact of road injury.

Translation

The translation of research findings into real-world applications is an essential aspect of our centre’s work. We are committed to ensuring that the insights gained from our research are effectively communicated and implemented within clinical and operational settings. This involves a multi-faceted approach that includes publishing our findings in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at international conferences, and engaging with healthcare and operational professionals through workshops and training sessions.

Our goal is to ensure that the latest evidence-based practices are adopted widely, enhancing the overall quality of post-collision care. We also work closely with policy-makers to influence healthcare policies and protocols, advocating for changes that reflect the most current scientific understanding.

By bridging the gap between research and practice, we aim to create a seamless flow of knowledge that empowers healthcare providers and improves patient outcomes. Our commitment to translation ensures that our innovative research has a tangible, positive impact on the lives of those affected by road injury.
